MAPUSA: Sangolda Lightning Sports Club trounced Sai Avatar Sports Club, Anjuna 3-0 to clinch Arpora-Nagoa Panchayat Cup, organised by Arpora Sporting Club at Salt Lake ground, Arpora on Saturday.

In a final witnessed by a huge crowd, Sangolda Lightning played more aggressively to go into the breather with a two-goal cushion. In the 22nd minute, Agnelo Cardoz, highest scorer of the tournament, finished with a superb flick for the opening goal off a Llyod Mascarenhas free kick. Minutes later, Sadhab Sheikh’s header kissed the Anjuna upright. The very next minute, Llyod made it 2-0 with scorching grounder.
On crossing ends, Anjuna exerted pressure with their skipper Legorio Noronha moving ahead from the defence to assist the strikers. A stinging 25-yard right footer from Shekar Kerkar was parried for a corner by Sangolda keeper Devraj Tari with a desperate diving save. Ten minutes before the final whistle, Llyod netted his brace with a
solo run.
Sangolda Lightning pocketed the winners cash prize of Rs 25,000 plus trophy while Sai Avatar had to be content with the runners-up prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy.

Earlier, before the start of the second half, the club president Mr Salim Sayed and secretary, Mr Babli Mandrekar introduced the chief guest, Mr Agnelo Fernandes, Calangute MLA, guest of honour, Ms Abeline Menezes, Calangute ZP and special invitees, Mr Michael Lobo, Saligao ZP, Mr Agnelo D’Souza, Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch, Mr Anthony Menezes, former Calangute ZP and other panch members to the players and match officials. The function was compered by sports secretary, Mr Sanjay Diukar.
