Saligao United clinch Bandodkar trophy

VASCO: Saligao United Sports Club, Bardez inscribed their name on the 37th Bandodkar Memorial Soccer Tournament, organised by Baina Sports Club, by shooting out Nagoa Sporting Club 4-2 via tie-breaker in the finals played at MPT ground on Sunday.

Both the teams played exciting game but failed to score any goal during the regulation time, hence tie-breaker was resorted to.

In the tie-breaker, barring M A Francis, Saligao United Sports Club targeted 4 out of their 5 chances into the net from the boots of Trevor Dias, Ligorio Alvares, Andrew Rodrigues and Martinho Fernandes.

For Nagoa, Venacio Gonsalves and Saish Palyekar were on target however Stanley Coutinho shot was brilliantly saved by Saligao goalkeeper Dietman Fernandes while Lawrence Rodrigues shot wide.

The winners Saligao United Sports Club received cash prize of Rs 40,000 while runners-up Saligao SC were given Rs 30,000 at the hands of Revenue Minister, Mr Jose Philip D’Souza, who was the guest of hounour for the prize distribution
ceremony.

Cash prizes were also awarded to semi-final losers Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and United Club of Nerul.

Best Performing Team: F C Siolim, Upcoming/Promising Player: Pradip Chopdekar,
Nagoa SC.

On the occasion, Mr Jose Philip D’Souza felicitated sportsmen from Baina namely Prakash Naik, former international footballer, Socrates Carvalho, former national footballer and founder member of Baina Sports Club, and Shadab Jakati, Ranji and IPL cricket player.
