PANAJI: Godfrey Silva brilliance enabled Salgaocar FC registered a thumping 3-0 win over United Sikkim while Sporting Clube de Goa suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat at the hands of Pune FC during their respective matches of the U20 tournament for I-League in Jamshedpur on Saturday.
Salgaocar took the lead in the 24th minute through a superb free kick by Rayman Fernandes from 30 yards leaving the Sikkim keeper helpless. Within a span of 10 minutes the green brigade doubled their advantage when the lively Godfrey got behind the Sikkim defense to slot the ball past the onrushing Sikkim keeper.
Salgaocar looked in total control of the first session keeping possession of the ball and frustrating the Sikkim players. Going into the break Crasto’s boys held a deserving two-goal cushion.
Soon after the break Godfrey took his tally to three goals in the tournament after finishing brilliantly off a Mario cross.
Salgaocar’s next match will be on Monday against Sporting Clube de Goa, who suffered a 3-0 drubbing from Pune FC.
Pune took the lead after just seven minutes through midfielder Nikhil Kadam. Twenty minutes later striker Subashish Bose doubled the lead. In the 80th minute, substitute G Karthik struck to further increase the score line for Pune. After three games, the Flaming Oranje Juniors remain on 2 points.
