VASCO: A fine brace of goals from the boots of S Subhash Singh and a quick goal in the first half by Francis Fernandes enabled Salgaocar Sports Club to garner full points, defeating Goa Velha Sports Club by 3-0 goals in a first round encounter of the Kingfisher Pro-League Football match played at Tilak Stadium, Vasco on Monday.

After a slow start in the beginning with moves initiated by S Subhash Singh, Dawson Fernandes and Francis Fernandes, the trend of things to happen was unveiled as Francis Fernandes shot in the nets in the 14th minute.

Dawson Fernandes essayed a fine pass towards Goa Velha goal which was deflected by Goa Velha’s defender Gary D’Mello and opportunistic Francis Fernandes toed in (1-0).

Seven minutes later, S Subhash Singh consolidated the lead. Accepting a pass midway, he ran a solo and cut past a host of defenders and shot home (2-0).

The first half was dominated by Salgaocar and in the last minute of the first half, Goa Velha had an opportunity to reduce the margin as Goa Velha’s Blake Haldankar’s shot was cleared to safety in the nick of time by agile Jaspal S Parmar when Salgaocar keeper was far from the goal area.

After change of ends, with the substitution of Beevan D’Mello, Salgaocar Sports Club went in the attack and aided by Francis Fernandes and Sukwender Singh in the 60th minute, Beevan D’Mello shot wide in the open goal when goalkeeper Agnelo Noronha of Goa Velha was away.

Six minutes later Francis Fernandes’ power-packed grounder went inches wide past diving Agnelo Noronha.

In the 68th minute, S Subhash Singh toed over the advancing Goa Velha keeper Agnelo Noronha.

In a counter move for Goa Velha, initiated by substitutes Saprem Divkar and Gauresh Mandrekar, Augosto Monteiro delayed to take shot.

Hard working Beevan D’Mello essayed a crisp pass to onrushing S Subhash Singh who made no mistake to romp home in the 83rd minute (3-0).
