MARGAO: Salgaocar Football Club downed Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 to earn full points in the GFA’s Kingfisher Professional Football League match played at Nehru stadium, Fatorda on Wednesday.
Salgaocar were leading 2-0 at half time with goals coming from the boots of Beevan D’Mello (6th minute) and KM Mettei (10th minute). Anthony Barbosa scored the other goal in the 53rd minute of the second session. Sporting pulled one back through their midfield maestro Kalu Ogba in the 60th minute of play.
Salgaocar began well and made their intentions clear by scoring quite early into the match.
Salgaocar’s youthful striker Beevan D’Mello, getting possession of a loose ball in the middle, took few steps forward and unleashed a powerful shot from 22 yards that had no answer from Sporting keeper Lousingam Singh.
Within the next four minutes Salgacoar did it again when medio Dinesh T ran down the right flank and crossed the ball to KM Mettei who found no difficulty at all to tap it into the
Salgaocar then began to control the proceedings for a long spell with Sporting making some efforts to rip inside the defensive wall through good efforts of Obiora Anoure and Kalu Ogba but the Salgacoar defence was in no mood to give liberty to any of the Sporting strikers.
On crossing over, Sporting were a totally transformed side for the major part of the proceedings. With positional play and good passing bouts they looked menacing when the second session was hardly 3 minutes old as Samananda Singh saw his effort hitting the horizontal and then in the next minute Velito Cruz who came as a substitute saw his try hitting the post.
Sporting continued attacking and reduced the margin to make it (2-1) when off a flag kick taken by Boboi Konthoujam was smartly sent into the Salgaocar nets by Kalu Ogba with a smart tap that deceived the rival keeper Albino Gomes.
Even as it looked that Sporting were very close in restoring parity, it was the Salgacoar team that scored again when Marcus Mascarenahas sent a through pass to Anthony Barbosa who had no difficulty to bulge the rival nets.
Sesa FA beat Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 2-0
In the other match played at Raia panchayat grounds, Sesa Football Academy scored two second half goals to register a 2-0 win against Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim.
Chukwudi Chukwuma (84th minute) and Girish Naik (88th minute) were the scorers for the Sesa FA that helped them earn full points.
