MAPUSA: Salgaocar SC, who are at ninth spot with 30 points, avoided the axe of relegation in the I-League after they beat Mahindra United in their last match. The former national champions, however, will look to end their campaign on a high when they lock horns with North-east club Shillong Lajong at Duler stadium, here on Friday.
Karim Bencherifa’s side of late have been playing some good football and look like favourites to win the tie, which was shifted from Tilak ground, Vasco after the venue was considered unfit for play by AIFF.
On the other side, Lajong have their neck under the sword and need three points to survive in the elite league. Tottering at second place from the bottom, Lajong have 26 points.
Meanwhile, Sporting Clube de Goa will take on Chirag United away at Kolkata in their final match on Friday. Sporting need a win and hope that other fixtures of the day go in their favour if they are to retain their I-League place. In another last round fixture in Mumbai, Mumbai FC will face Mohun Bagan to fight off relegation. Sporting are on 24 while Mumbai FC are on 26 points.
