Sachin’s brace secures Calvim first win

MAPUSA: A late second half brace by Sachin Chopdekar propelled St Dominic Savio’s Sports Club, Calvim to a facile 3-1 win over Augustius Sports Club, Pomburpha in the GFA’s 3rd Division League played at Quitula grounds, Tuesday. It was Calvim’s first win in 3rd Division.

After securing two draws in their opening fixtures, Calvim were determined to gain three points and a Prashant Sutar strike in the 39th minute saw them enter the breather with their tails up.

But, complacency soon gripped the Calvim camp as Noah Fernandes added his name to the scoresheet in the 51st minute to level terms for Pomburpha.

With both sides aiming for full points it was a matter of individual brilliance as Sachin Chopdekar carried on the onus to guide Calvim to their first win of the campaign scoring a brace in the 76th and 87th minute respectively.

At Tembi grounds, Nerul Sports Club demolished a hapless Pilerne Sports Club courtesy, a 5-1 win.

Mukund Agarwadekar’s brace in the 32nd and 45th minute, saw Nerul seize full authority of the match by the end of the first session.

On crossing over, Nerul’s onslaught continued as Daneshwar Madgaokar (51st), Deepraj Sangelkar (65th)
and Avinash Pereira (90th) joined in the celebration with a goal apiece. Swapnil Betadkar did find the nets for Pilerne, but it proved to be a mere consolation for the losing outfit.
