QUEEN’S BATON RELAY ARRIVES IN GOA

PANAJI: A warm reception was accorded to the Queen’s Baton Relay on its arrival in Goa at a colourful function organised at Pollem check post in Canacona on Tuesday.

The Queen’s Baton contains the message of the Queen Elizabeth-II to be read out to the athletes at the opening ceremony of the 19th Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi from October 3-14.
On the arrival of the final lap of Queen’s Baton  Relay from  Karnataka,  the President of Karnataka Olympic Association, Mr Govind Raj passed the baton to Sports Minister, Mr Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar.
Minister of Karnataka State, Mr Anand Asnotikar accompanied the convoy of the Queens Baton Relay from Karnataka to Goa. MLAs Mr Vijay Pai Khot, Mr Ramesh Tawadkar, Mr Lt. Gen. Raj Kardyan, Additional Director General, QBR, Delhi, Dr Suzan D’Souza, Director of Sports, Mr V M Prabhudessai, Executive Director of SAG,  and others joined the gathering in the festive celebration.
The enthusiastic students and people lined up on both the sides of the road to welcome the historical Queens Baton Relay at various points it passed through Goa.
The Queens Baton Relay will leave Goa to proceed to Maharashtra on September 8. A farewell function will be held at Patradevi at 10.20 am.
Meanwhile, the Goa Governor, Dr S S Sidhu  released the special postal cover on the occasion of arrival of Queen’s Baton Relay in Goa at a main official function held at Kala Academy, Campal Panaji on Tuesday.
