PANAJI: Hosts Pilerne Sports Club surprised Parra Verla Canca Association with a 4-2 tie-breaker win to enter the quarter-finals of 17th Pilerne Panchayat Cup football tournament at Maddanim grounds.

Both teams matched each other move for move and were tied 1-1 at regulation time after a goalless first half. On resumption of play ,after half time break, Atish Mirajkar shot PVC into the lead in the 44th minute.  But PVC’s lead lasted only five minutes as Viraj Malik found the equaliser in the 49th minute.
In the tie-breaker, Pilerne keeper Blasco saved off Jovito and Jacinto while Jerry shot out and Brijesh was the lone scorer for PVC.  For Pilerne, Gaurish, Viraj, and Santan were on target with only Anant failing to score.
In another match, Siolim Sodiem Sports & Cultural Association overcame a strong fightback from Friends XI, Vaddem, Soccorro with a 3-2 win to enter the quarter-finals.
Sodiem led 2-0 at half time with goals from Dylan Noronha and Anthony Fernandes.
Friends XI staged a fightback by pulling one back through Edberg Sequeira at the start of the second half. But they conceded soon after when Dylan Noronha scored his second for Sodiem to make the score 3-1.  Friends XI took the battle to their rivals and scored through Elvin Fernandes to make the score 3-2 but they failed to find the equaliser in spite of trying hard.
