MARGAO: Parish Youth Nuvem outclassed CRC Chinchinim 3-1 to enter the last eight of Cana-Benaulim soccer tournament, organised by Cana-Benaulim SA and being played at St John Baptist grounds Dando, Benaulim. The winners led by a goal at the breather.
Nuvem got off to a fine start with striker Gammy Costa finding the opening goal as early as the eighth minute after connecting a fine pass off midfielder Jose Colaco. Chinchinim were unable to get any rhythm in their play despite some enterprising football on the wings by Nickson Rebello. Chinchinim returned back a little bit aggressive after the change of ends and winger Jorex Fernandes was bundled inside the box by Nuvem stopper Richard Fernandes to concede a penalty, which was blasted in by Noel Leitao to restore parity for his team.
Stunned by the equaliser, Nuvem pressed their rivals with medios Remmy Colaco and Jose Colaco feeding their strikers well and ultimately Rowling Borges put Nuvem ahead in the 46th minute after getting past the Chinchinim defence and pushing the ball past rival keeper Melroy into the nylons.
Chinchinim never recovered from the blow and the Nuvem team made sure of the victory when striker Gammy Costa bulged the net from close range to complete his brace with eight minutes remaining for the final whistle.
