PANAJI: Goa’s teenage tennis sensation and Dempo Goodwill Brand Ambassador, Natasha Palha of Agasaim is continuing to reap a good harvest in her sporting field, courtesy of the wholesome support from the House of Dempos through their Goodwill Ambassador scheme, mooted by Chairman, Mr Shrinivas V Dempo.
Having already made waves in the Indian tennis circuit in her two years of being the recipient of the novel scheme floated by Dempos, Natasha is already half-way through the year 2010 and has kept up the good work with her name already inscribed on two winners trophies.
The month of July has been very rewarding for the enthusiastic but suave Goan tennis star. Natasha’s stint at the Harvest Tennis Academy’s AITA men’s and women’s ranking tournament, at Jassowal (Ludhiana) earlier in the month, fetched her the women’s doubles crown and a singles runner-up title, which was a follow-up tournament after she had emerged a Doubles winner at the All India 50K women’s tournament conducted by APLTA at Secunderabad.
There the 16-year-old also finished second best in the singles event. To cap it up, Natasha set the ball rolling as far as gearing up for the second half of the 2010 season was concerned as she now prepares her self to try and play in 10,000 dollar tournaments and also aims at breaking into the top 100 of the ITF U-18 age group. From August 15 to September 15, the Dhempe Arts (Std XI) student, will park herself at the glorious Harvest Tennis Academy in Jassowal, which will allow her a month’s time to practice on clay courts so that she can enter two Grade 2 tournaments to be held in the second half of September in Egypt; and then launch herself on synthetic surface for the Grade B-1 and Grade 2 events in Korea and Thailand respectively in October.
That’s how Natasha has set herself up for the upcoming couple of months of tennis action, which in a sense will help her gather valuable points and a targeted surge in her ITF ranking as well.
However, as she puts it, her prime aim is to target points in three 10,000 dollar tournaments in November so as to push her into the WTA List as points would be vital to allow her to compete in the senior category for women.
That apart, Natasha has given herself time until March 2011, to break into the top 100 in U-18 as she currently nests at 265 in the ITF rankings, although she had recently touched a career best ranking of 220 in June, 2010.
Having taken upon herself the sole motto of winning more titles this year, Natasha is all the more determined to make her sponsors Dempo and Chairman, Mr Shrinivas V Dempo, in particular, all the more proud by coming out with flying colours in the coming months.
Natasha recalls that the year has been satisfying so far and with two doubles titles in her kitty she longs for more. The year 2010 was set off by finishing runners-up at the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) all India Tennis Tournament, organised by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club, in February and later in May, Natasha participated in two ITF events in Delhi where she reached the quarter-finals of Grade 2, beating fifth seed Lin Zhu from China and also made it to the 3rd round of the Grade B-1 with a win over 10th seed from Turkmenistan. She’s is definitely making inroads.
