VASCO: In an exciting semi-final match on Tuesday, Nagoa Sporting Club, Bardez defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 5-2 via tie-breaker to make it to the finals of the NRB Group 37th Bandodkar Memorial Soccer tournament, organised by Baina Sports Club and played at MPT grounds, here.
Don Bosco lads took the lead in the 40th minute when prolific Valen Silva accepted a pass from Wilson Dias from the right flank, and then dived past Nagoa Keeper Nandan Simepuruskar to target the ball in Nagoa’s goalpost.
However, a Stanley Coutinho- Saish Palyekar move, five minutes before the end of the regular period, saw Adnan Baig equalising for Nagoa.
Many scoring opportunities came in Don Bosco’s way but Vincent Barbosa, Francis Andrade and Wilson Dias’ erratic shooting cost them the match.
In the tie-breaker Nagoa’s Stanley Coutinho, Lourenco Rodrigues, Gourish Naik and Saish Palyekar hit the target but Girish Naik shot over. For Don Bosco Oratory, Mahadev Talwar and Ashley Araujo could convert but Wilson Dias and Valente Silva’s kicks were beautifully saved by Nandan Simepuruskar who was later adjudged man-of-the-match.
Earlier, referee Inacio Rodrigues flashed caution cards to two Don Bosco players —Mahadev Talwar for handling the ball and Savio Quadros for rough tackle. Gaurish Naik of Nagoa was also cautioned for dangerous tackle.
