Nagoa pip Vagator, qualify for play-offs

MAPUSA: Nagoa Sporting Club secured their spot in the play-off rounds of the GFA 3rd Division League with an exhilarating 3-2 win over Parish Youth Vagator at Chapora grounds, on Wednesday.

Nagoa gained the early initiative and went into the breather with a 1-0 lead, thanks to Francis Coutinho’s 10th minute strike.
However, minutes after the restart Vagator stunned their opponents and quick goals in the space of seven minutes from Leroy D’Sousa (48th) and Shelton Fernandes (54th) tilted the tide in Vagator’s favour.
But, Nagoa did not lose heart and came back strongly as goals from Sanjay Kudalkar and Raghuvir Salgaocar in the 60th and 67th minute respectively saw them claim three crucial points.
Nagoa (8 points) along with ABC Arambol (10 points) have now qualified for the play-off rounds.
At Quitula grounds, Sinquerim Sports Club claimed all three points against hosts Quitula Sports Club.
With a minute left for the final hooter Quitula defender Pashao Gomes brought down Mandar Narvekar inside the danger area, prompting the referee to award a penalty to Sinquerim, which was ably converted by Mandar.
