MAPUSA: Milagres Sports Club’s fine run in the 6th Rajasthan Marbles Soccer, organised by Saligao United, came to an end as they went down fighting 2-1 to Nagoa Sports Club in the semi-finals played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro grounds, Candolim, on Tuesday.
The Nagoa outfit gained the early initiative thanks to a misjudgement from the Milagres keeper, who failed to deal with a harmless attempt from Gauresh Naik in the eighth minute. The Mapusa outfit could have entered the breather all square, but Milind Rane after getting past a host of Nagoa defenders failed to keep his strike on target in the 23rd minute.
However, four minutes into the second half, Shailesh Miskin latched on to an Agnelo D’Sousa through pass to draw the Mapusa men back on level terms. But Milagres’ joy was short-lived as six minutes later, a scorching drive from Adnan Bieg crashed into the nylons to give Nagoa the upper hand. Desperate for an equaliser, Milagres tried hard upfront but the likes of Alvito Fernandes and Milind Rane did everything but find the rival nets.
