MAPUSA: St Cruz Cavelossim defeated Wilred Leisure 3-1 in the GFA Professional League match at Duler grounds, here, Tuesday.

Fredrick Andro, Agnelo D’Souza, Wilton Gomes scored for Cavelossim. Sectorio Monteiro reduced the margin for Wilred Leisure.
Gaurav tops in U-12 chess
PANAJI: Gaurav Madkaikar, FIDE rated chess player from Ponda, scored 6.5 points and bagged the 1st place in U-12 category in the 1st  Late  Shri Sharad Gopal Kunte Memorial FIDE Rating rapid chess tournament organized by Buddhibal Kreeda Trust at Pune. He is a student of Almeida High School. Ponda Taluka Chess Association and Goa Chess Association have congratulated him for his excellent performance in this tournament.
Nagao trounce Siolim Sodiem
MAPUSA: Nagao Sports Club trounced Siolim Sodiem Sports Club 4-1 in the GFA’s Second Division League match played at Sangolda grounds, on Tuesday. Both the sides started earnestly and were locked in a 1-1 draw at the breather. In the very 3rd minute of play Rakesh Kumar scored a gem of a goal after dribbling past a host Siolim defenders and slotted the ball past the keeper, 1-0. Siolim-Sodiem netted the equaliser in the 24th minute through a power-packed shot by Rupesh Madkar, which hit the top upright before the ball landed into the goal, 1-1. On crossing over Rakesh Kumar netted a brace to complete his hat-trick, with Sheikh Ali adding his name to the scorers’ list with his fine individual effort to make it 4-1.
Churchill Bros U-20 trials
PANAJI: Churchill Brothers Sports Club will conduct open trials for their U-20 youth team on February 16 from 3.30 pm onwards at the Cansaulim Sports Complex in Cansaulim. Boys born on or after January 1, 1993  are eligible to participate in the open trials for the club’s U-20 team which will participate in invitational tournaments as well as the U-20 I-League. Players attending the trials have been asked to bring their birth certificate and own playing kit.
Sagun to lead Goa in Subbiah Pillai trophy
PANAJI: Sagun Kamat will lead Goa for the first two matches of the K S Subbiah Pillai Trophy one-day limited overs South Zone cricket tournament to be held in Goa from February 14 to 20. Team: Swapnil Asnodkar, Sagun Kamat (captain), Amogh Desai,Manvinder Bisla,Ravikant Shukla,Reagan Pinto, Rohit Asnodkar, Shadab Jakati, Saurabh Bandekar, Robin D’Souza, Gaurish Gawas, Keenan Vaz, Sher Bahadur Yadav, Buddhadev Mangaldas, Sahil Dhuri.
Geno awards to be presented on Friday
PANAJI: The SJAG-Geno Sports Awards will be presented on Friday, February 15 at Hotel Mandovi at 11 am. The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar will be the chief guest for the function. Sports Minister, Mr Ramesh Tawadkar will be the guest of honour while Mr Dilip Salgaonkar, Chairman and Managing Director of Geno Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd will preside over the function. These awards are being sponsored by Mr Dilip Salgaonkar. Following are the recipients of Geno Sports Awards 2012: Best sports person (male): Francis Fernandes (footballer); Best sports person (female): Tanvi Vargaonkar (athlete); Best team: Goa diving team; Best coach: Siva Swamy (chess); Best upcoming player (male): Wesley do Rosario (table tennis); Best upcoming player (female):Anura Prabhu Desai (badminton). Vodafone Cup: Areal enter semi-finals
MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal entered the semi-finals of Vodafone inter-village football tournament when they registered a hard fought 2-1 victory against Verna SC in an exciting quarter-finals match played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Tuesday. At half time, the teams were locked 1-1. Sao Jose de Areal shot into the lead in the very fifth minute of play as Franky Valadares leaped high to connect a cross from the right to beat the Verna SC keeper all ends up. Verna SC restored parity when Stanley Pereira found the mark to beat Areal keeper Luis Dias with a rasping drive. Areal scored the match-winner in the 50th minute of play through Aggio Antao off a nice pass from Merwyn Costa.
D-Licence coaching course
PANAJI:  The All India Football Federation is likely to conduct a D-Licence Coaching Course in Goa, from Feb 19 to 24. Persons interested in attending the course may collect details about the criteria for selection from the GFA Secretariat in Panaji during office hours, and submit their entries by February 15.
