Navneet, Pankaj in badminton finals

PANAJI: Navneet Nasnodkar, who has been in fine form this season, registered a straight sets 21-19, 21-7 win over Floyd Araujo to move into the Men’s Singles finals of the All Goa Major Ranking Badminton Tournament, organised by Ponda Shuttlers at Indoor Stadium, Ponda.

In the other semis, former state champion Pankaj Naik beat Sharmad Mahajan 21-17, 21-10 to set up a title clash with the top-seed. Meanwhile, Anushka Kuvelkar will clash with Anura Prabhudesai in the finals of the Girls’ Under 19 event. In the semis, Anushka beat Pranjal Chimulkar 21-15, 21-17 while Anura had it easy against Hetal Kenaudikar, winning 21-6, 21-12.

Salcete FC elects new committee

MARGAO: Salcete Football Club elected its new committee with Mr Joe Dias as president and Mr Brahmanand Shankhwalkar as chairman, during its Annual General Body Meeting and elections held at BPS Sports Club, here on Sunday. The newly-formed committee has also inducted Mr Joaquim Alemao as the 1st Honorary Member of the club, in recognition of the services rendered and the contribution made by him to the Club during his tenure as the club chairman. The following Managing Committee was elected for the 2012-15 period—President: Mr Joe Dias; Chairman: Mr Brahmanand Shankhwalkar; Vice Presidents: Mr Agnelo L Fernandes, Mr Schubert Furtado, Mr Armando Colaco and Mr Mauricio Afonso; Honorary General Secretary: Mr Alberto Colaco; Assistant Secretary: Mr Anthony Pango; Treasurer: Mr Jacinto Fernandes; Assistant Treasurer: Mr Sunil K Naik; Committee Members: Mr Ernesto Moniz, Mr Peter Rodrigues, Mr Justo Costa, Mr Bento Andrew, Mr Peter Coutinho, Fr Eremita Coutinho, Mr Angelo Almeida, Mr Francisco Bruto Da Costa, Mr Tony Cabral and Mr Oswald D’Costa; Audit Committee: Mr Bruno Furtado and Mr. Darcie D’Sousa. The new constitution of the club was also adopted during the meeting.
