Mormugao badminton tourney from Sept 1-5

PANAJI: The Mormugao Badminton Club will organise an all-Goa Major Ranking Badminton Tournament from 1st to 5th September, at Deepvihar High School Indoor Badminton Courts, Headland Sada, Mormugao.

The championship will be held in the following categories: boys singles in Under 13, 16, 19; girls singles in Under 13, 16; girls Under 16 doubles and singles;doubles for men and veterans 45 plus. Entries may be submitted latest by 30th August to Roy Athaide (Indoor Stadium, Panaji/Mapusa), Vinayak Kamat (Indoor Stadium, Margao), Santosh Prabhudesai (Ponda), Laxmikant Kenaudiker (Vasco) or at Oasis Petrol Pump, near Don Bosco High School, Panaji.

POINGUINNIM: The U-17 girls category open state selection chess tournament, organised by Canacona Sports Academy in association with Sports Authority of Goa, under the auspices of Goa Chess Association, will be held from August 29-31at Dattamandir, Nagorcem, Canacona.

Post Graduates ahead in varsity soccer

PANAJI: Post Graduate Students of Goa University, V M Salgaoncar College, Narayan Zantye College and Chowgule College entered the second round of inter-college football championships 2010-2011 at University grounds, Taleigao plateau.Post Graduate Students of Goa University beat RIEIT 4-0. Malcom Abreau scored 2 goals while Kiran Desai and Glacen Lobo netted one each. V M Salgaoncar beat Dhempe Miramar via tie breaker 8-6. Zantye College, Bicholim beat Fine Art College, Panaji 4-1 Chowgule College Margao beat G R Kare College Margao 6-0.

Ivana holds Cholletisajasri,
finishes 12th in national chess

PANAJI: Ivana Furtado drew with WFM Cholletisajasri (2044) of AP in the final round of 37th National Women B Chess Championship at Guwahati, Assam. She finished 12th in the prize list and scored 7 points out of 11 rounds. Riya Savant with 5.5 points drew with Malabika Singh (1764) of Assam and finished 44th. Sampada Barve scored 5 points and finished 51st. Sakshi Naik Gaonkar scored 4.5 points. Rucha Pujari of Maharashtra scored 9 points and won the championships.
