Milagres oust Adarsh YS

MAPUSA: Hosts Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao were ousted from the Maha Bank Platnium Trophy after they went down by a solitary goal to Milagres Sports Club, Mapusa in the quarter-finals at Calangute Association grounds, on Friday. It was a fine defence-splitting pass from Shailesh Miskin in the 17th minute, which saw striker Avito Fernandes place the ball past an onrushing Saligao keeper.

Holy Cross stun St Britto’s

MAPUSA: Holy Cross HS Bastora stunned hot favourites St Britto’s HS Mapusa 1-0 in the boys U-14 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school soccer at Peddem grounds on Friday.The all-important goal was scored by Abusaba Harasldar. Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley got the better of St Anthony’s HS Monte de Guirim 4-2. Alrich D’Souza, Dion Pinto, Myron Fernandes, Gajaanan Mandrekar were the scorers for Porvorim while Ronald Martins, Leander Pereira netted two goals for Monte de Guirim school.

GFA’s new entrant referees course

PANAJI: The GFA will conduct a new entrant referees course at two venues, one in the north and one in the south. Clubs have been requested to register at least two candidates with the GFA offices at Panaji, Mapusa and Margao. Other individuals interested in attending the course may also register their names. The last date for registration is September 9. Based on the response, the exact date and venue for the course will be announced, disclosed a GFA press note.

Betalbatim to meet PY Nuvem
in Pacheco Cup finals

PANAJI: Betalbatim Sporting Club defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 5-4 via the tie-breaker to enter the finals of late Joao Francis Pacheco Cup football tournament at Betalbatim grounds, on Friday. They will meet PY Nuvem in the finals on August 29. In today’s match, the teams were locked in a goalless draw at the end of regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Desmond Fernandes, Cajey D’Souza, Dickson Rogtao, Allwick Fernandes and Heston D’Costa were on target for Betalbatim while Luis Cardozo, Diago Fernandes, Roy Albuquerque and Wesley Fernandes scored for Curtorim.

Caculo, Rosary, Don Bosco ahead

PANAJI: Caculo College, Rosary College and Don Bosco College entered the second round of inter-college men’s football championships, organised by Goa University at University grounds, Taleigao Plateau. Caculo beat GVM’s, Ponda 2-0. Gary D’Mello (7th minute) and Kritesh Kinalkar (38th) scored. Rosary, Navelim beat Govt. College, Pernem 9-0. The score at the end of the first half was 6-0. Don Bosco College, Panaji beat Govt. College, Sanquelim 5-2. They led 3-0 at half time.

PANAJI: Ivana Furtado drew with Mohana Priya (2004) of Tamil Nadu in the 37th National Women’s-B Chess Championships. She is now on six points after 9 rounds of action. Sampada Barve and Riya Savant are on 4.5 points. Riya beat Kumkum Buragohain and Sampada lost to Mahasweta Kumar. Sakshi Naik Gaonkar is on 3 points and Richa on 1 point.
