PANAJI: Post Graduate Students of Goa University won the 2010-11 Inter-College Badminton Championship for men, organised by Goa University at Indoor Stadium Complex, Campal on Friday. Padre Conceissao College of Engineering, Verna (PCCE) won the women’s championship.

Post Graduate Students beat S S Dempo College 3-1. Nikhil Pulare beat Jayesh Shirodkar 21-15, 21-10, Laxman Ghanekar lost to Sunny Sawant 4-21, 11-21, Navneet Nasnodkar and Nikhil Pulare beat Sunny Sawant and Vaibhav Shetye 7-21, 21-12, 21-12, while Navneet Nasnodkar beat Vaibhav Shetye 18-21, 21-15, 21-12.

In the women’s section, Padre Conceissao College of Engineering beat Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology 2-1.

Suprita Naik lost to Preetam Desai 3-21, 10-21, Rishma Chitnis beat Varda Desai 21-1, 21-2, Rishma Chitnis and Shradha Shahapurkar beat Preetam Desai and Vardha Desai 21-17, 23-21.

Dr S V Deshpande, Principal of Dhempe College of Arts & Science and Honourable Member of the Sports Council of Goa University was the chief guest for the finals and awarded the trophies to the winners. Mr Milton L Fernandes, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports of Goa University presided over the function.

In the meantime, the inter-college table tennis championships 2010-2011 will be held at indoor stadium complex of Sports Authority of Goa, Campal from 2nd to 4th August.
