PANAJI: Thousands of Hindu families in the state on Friday bid adieu to the idols of Lord Ganesh by immersing them in rivers, wells, rivulets, ponds etc thereby ending one and half day Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in Goa.
Chanting Ganapati Bappa morya fudchya varshi laukar ya, the idols were taken out in procession after puja was performed amidst bursting of firecrackers. The revelers danced to the tune of classical and modern music as they passed through the streets, also bursting firecrackers, with the idols for immersion.
While most people burst firecrackers and used fireworks some refrained from using the fireworks so as to avoid pollution. People in port town of Vasco, who have been advised against using fireworks in view of fire incident recently due to rupture of the naphtha pipeline, also avoided using firecrackers.
The idols of Lord Ganesh had been ceremoniously installed in homes on Thursday. During the festivities the members of the families performed aartis, bhajans etc even as the faithful visited houses of one another for greeting.
