Goa Velha earn first point in Taca Goa league

MAPUSA: Goa Velha put up a brave fight but had to be content with just a point after their 1-1 draw against ten-man Sesa Football Academy, in the 1st Division GFA U-20 Taca Goa Football league match at Duler grounds here on Thursday.

The draw saw Goa Velha earn their first point in the league while Sesa now stand with seven points. The first session failed to create much spark with moves just few and far between.
In the initial stages, Adwin Lucas tried to break the deadlock; however his powerful header was timely collected by Goa Velha keeper Soma Korgaonkar while minutes later Pedro Gonsalves saw his well executed free-kick go inches over the Sesa goal.
After much probing, on crossing over, it was Goa Velha who broke the deadlock in the 58th minute of play through Joston Pereira, whose curling free-kick found no answer from Sesa keeper Shayan Roy.
However, Sesa did not have to wait for long as seven minutes later Adwin Lucas took full advantage of a misunderstanding between Goa Velha keeper Soma and defender Joyner, and placed the ball into the empty nets.
Sesa’s aggression saw them lose a man on field as Marian Fernandes was given the marching orders by referee Chandrashekar Shirodkar for
double booking.
