Goa beat TN, lift tennis ball cricket trophy

PANAJI: Goa defeated hosts Tamil Nadu in the finals of 1st U-14 Mini Nationals Tennis Ball Cricket at Sholinghur, Tamil Nadu, Saturday.

Electing to bat first, Tamil Nadu scored 59 runs in their alloted 8 overs. Rushikesh Gawde and Rohit Naik claimed 2 wickets each for Goa.

In reply, Goa scored the required runs in 7.4 overs to emerge victorious. Arjun Nepali scored 23 runs and Darpan contributed 15 while Sandeep scored 9.

Earlier, Goa defeated Kerala in the semi-finals. Goa, electing to bat first, scored 62 for 7 in 8 overs. Sandeep Naik scored 23 runs, Rohit 14 and Darpan 11. In reply, Kerala managed only 61 in 8 overs and thus lost just by 1 run.

Winners Goa team received the trophy along with medals and certificates at the hands of guests present during the prize distribution on Saturday.

Mr Navin Acharya, SAG Asst.Secretary, Mr Bruno Coutinho, SAG Jt-Director, Mr Kanta Naik and Mr Ropesh Naik of GTBCA along with players’ parents and senior players congratulated the victorious Goa team, which returns home on Monday, July 16 at 6 am at Margao railway station.
