MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda overwhelmed Raitura Sports Club 3-0 to enter the quarter-finals of 25th Fraxier Trophy soccer tournament being organsied by Young Strikers Club Benaulim at St John Baptist grounds, Dando-Benaulim.
Don Bosco were sitting pretty with a two goal advantage at the breather with Francis Andrade and Ashley Araujo getting on the scorelist and it was always a struggle for the 10-man Raitura to wipe off the deficit. It was not a good day for the losers who conceded a freak own goal in the closing stages.
The winners attacked from the word go with the rivals a man less. Raia could find themselves down by a couple of goals had not goalkeeper Cosme Oliveira come up with two stunning saves to deny Cliff Baretto and
Danny Dias.
Fatorda finally made the breakthrough in the 19th minute when striker Francis Andrade, after gaining possession of a loose ball on the edge of the box, unleashed a left-footer which crashed in to the nylons, keeping Cosme rooted to the ground.
It was the opening that was needed for Fatorda which doubled their advantage three minutes before the break when winger Joel Camara sent in a smart cross from the right for Ashley Araujo for a simple tap-in.
After resumption, Raitura did well to attack from the flanks with medio Pele Xavier and Santano D’Cruz creating some decent openings but striker Felix D’Mello wasted an absolute sitter from inside the box. Don Bosco completed the scoring in lucky circumstances in the 55th minute when a Cliff Baretto cross from the left was poked in by Raitura defender Aurelinao Barboza into his own net.
