Dempo, Salgaocar promise fanfare

PANAJI: Defending champions Dempo Sports Club Pvt Ltd take on Salgaocar FC in a Round 9 encounter of the I-League on December 1 at Nehru stadium, Fatorda, here.

After some initial hiccups, it has been a top-start season for Dempo SC who now on 2nd position of the league table.

Dempo suffered a 3-1 defeat to ONCG earlier this month, but struck back with vengeance by defeating Air India and Mohun Bagan in successive matches.

According to coach Armando Colaco these wins were much needed not only to remind everyone about the spirit of Dempo but also pull the team back to the top 3 on the points table.

Armando Colaco will be eager to make a point to his critics by winning the game against Salgaocar FC and maintaining an "All Win" record for Dempo’s home matches this season. After 8 rounds of I-League, Dempo is yet to lose a game at home.

It only adds weight to the case that Salgaocar have been beaten 7 times in the last 15 outings with as many as 24 goals pumped against them by Dempo SC.

While the Dempo defence would seem to be largely unchanged, Climax Lawrence will add teeth into the Dempo midfield after serving a two match suspension for allegedly showing dissent to the referee during their away match against East Bengal. Koko Sakibo is recovering from his injury and seems unlikely to feature in the playing eleven. Ricketts or Joaquim Abranches may partner Ryuji Seuoka upfront.

Dempo’s two wingers Clifford Miranda and Anthony Pereira could also be doubtful starters after both of them got injured in the game against Mohun Bagan. Should they fail a fitness test before the start of the game, Romeo Fernandes would start on the left and Nicolau Borges could take Clifford’s place on the left flank.

Meanwhile, Salgaocar FC is having an awful record this season. With one win and three draws they find themselves staring at the doors of relegation zone on the 12th position. Coach David Booth will be a worried man as their strikers have failed miserably after scoring just 6 goals in 8 matches. Their top scorer, Filipino Angel Guirado will not be available for the match as he is with the Philippines national team at the AFF
Suzuki Cup.

Regardless of the position of both the teams, it is believed that this match will be an entertainer to the fans.

Kick off time will be at 7 pm. The match will be shown live on Ten Action+ and I-Stream.com.
