PANAJI: Dempo Sports Club on Thursday beat Salgaocar by 2 wickets to record their second win in as many matches in the Panjim Gymkhana organised Bandodkar League cricket tournament being played at Gymkhana ground, Campal, here.
Fielding first, Dempo SC bowled out Salgaocar for a paltry 152 runs in just 35.1 overs and then chased the target losing 8 wickets. Dempo’s Ahmad Nizam impressed with the ball claiming 4 wickets giving away just 23 runs. He was ably supported by Ashish More and Amit Yadav with 2 wickets apiece. For Salgaocar, Sagun Kamat top-scored with 37 runs while Keenan Vaz chipped in with 32 runs.
Defending the modest total of 152 runs, Salgaocar kept pressure on Dempo SC taking wickets at regular intervals but Ilyas Naroo’s resolute knock of 46 runs off 71 balls and a 41-ball 30 from Rahul Keni helped Dempo reach the target. Vidhyadhar Kamat was the most successful bowler for Salgaocar claiming 3 wickets for 30 runs.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Dempo survived Chowgule star batsman Rohit Asnodkar’s onslaught (118 off 108 balls) to win their first match of the tournament by 4 runs.
Batting first, Dempo posted a challenging total of 258 all out in stipulated 45 overs with Rahul Keni (84), Shoaib Shaikh (54) Ilyas Naroo (53) and Sumiran Amonkar (27) doing bulk of the scoring. However, Chowgule batsmen showed great character to chase down the stiff target but they faltered in the end to concede a 4-run defeat.
Besides Rohit Asnodkar’s blistering century, Regan Pinto (34), Ajinkya Joshi (24) and Dhiraj Narvekar (22) contributed for Chowgule. Santosh Shinde was the pick of the bowlers for Chowgule claiming 4 wickets while Ashish More (3-41), Vivek Karapurkar (2-49) and Madhu Kamat (2-25)
were the successful bowlers for Dempo.
