PANAJI: Sporting Club of Davorlim beat Varca Sports Club 2-1 to enter the quarter-finals of St Anthony’s Super soccer at Directorate of Sports grounds, Colva on Monday.

Both teams played good football with Varca dominating the initial stage of the match. Milroy Marquis missed after getting the better of the entire defence. Davorlim scored from the counter attack with William Niasso scoring in the 27th minute. Immediately after the goal, Varca were awarded a penalty as Davorlim defender handled the ball in the penalty area. Elvis closely placed the ball in the net by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way at the half way mark, 1-1. In the second half, Varca missed two easy sitters. Davorlim scored the winning goal in the 50th minute through Andrew Colaco. Varca tried hard to equalise but Davorlim’s defence thwarted their moves. Olan Vaz of Varca was awarded the man of the match prize.
