D’Souza kick starts work at New-Vaddem football ground

VASCO: The Revenue Minister, Mr Jose Philip D’Souza on Tuesday kicked off the much-awaited construction work of the football ground at New-Vaddem.

While addressing the media after performing the ‘bhoomi poojan’, the Revenue Minister, Mr D’Souza informed that the project has been budgeted at Rs 27 lakh and will be completed in 90 days time. The function was attended by Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson, Mr Shekhar Khadapkar, deputy Chairperson, Mr Kashinath Yadav, former MMC, Chairperson, Mr Kritesh Gaonkar, Mr Premanand Nanoskar, Mr Arvind Shinde, Mr Kelly Fernandes and others.

The provision for the construction of football ground was delayed due to some problems faced due to the acquisition process. The local youths and sportspersons will be benefited due to the ground wherein Revenue Minister, Mr D’Souza has said that a provision of floodlight will also be made available in course of time.

Mr D’Souza has expressed gratitude to Ms Nayan Tara, the wife of late football icon, Noel Lima Leitao. The Revenue Minister has stated that a maintenance committee will be shortly appointed in order to look after the ground and the committee will decide on offering a suitable name to the ground. The construction work of the ground has been allocated to M/s D N Association of Fatorda.
