MAPUSA: Calangute Association Sports Club struggled to overpower Saligao Sporting Club 4-2 win via tie-breaker, to enter the semi-finals of Colormax-Imperial Rolling Trophy at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, here on Friday.
At the end of the regulation time the teams were locked in a goalless draw, which was a closely fought duel. And then in the penalty shootout Emmanuel Costa, Pedro Gonsalves, Francis Fernandes and Alex Fernandes scored for Calangute, while only Joseph Noronha and Vijendra Shetye shot on target for Sporting. Nagendra and Govind shot out.
Earlier in the first session of the match, Bruno Coutinho’s free-kick was perfectly directed to striker Francis Fernandes, who made a mess in front of the goal.
In the 18th minute, Pedro Gonsalves’ corner was brilliantly connected by Bruno Coutinho, only to find Sporting keeper Parasappa Harijan, who produced an excellent save.
