BPS Club lift Angley’s TT trophy

PANAJI: The BPS Club, Margao emerged winners of Angley’s Cup Table Tennis Team Championship event, organised by Panjim Gymkhana at the Gymkhana Hall premises on Tuesday.

In the finals, BPS Club registered a convincing 3-0 win over last year’s champions Panjim Table Tennis Club to emerge triumphant.

Agnelo Naik gave BPS Club a dream start by defeating former state champion Ajit Ghantker 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7. Goa’s top paddler Diljeet Velingker made it 2-0 for BPS with a comfortable 11-7, 12-10, 11-7 win over Goa’s Table Tennis stalwart Noel Noronha.

The 3rd tie was a pulsating edge-of-the-seat contest with fortunes fluctuating every minute. Amit Naik of BPS lost the first two sets 8-11, 9-11 but came back strongly to win the next three 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 to clinch the championship for BPS.

Dr Ajit Nagarshekar, GMC Consultant was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the presence of Mr Kishore Angley, former Gymkhana President and tournament sponsor. Gymkhana secretary, Mr Prashant Kakode and jt-treasurer, Mr Sanjay Pednekar were also present. The tournament was conducted by Ajit Ghantker.
