MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club recorded a solitary goal victory over a fighting Curtorim Gymkhana in the inaugural match of the 25th Fraxier Trophy Soccer tournament organised by Young Strikers Benaulim and played at St John Baptist grounds Dando, Benaulim on Friday.

After a barren first session which was dominated by Betalbatim, substitute Nigel Falcao scored the only goal of the match.
Betalbatim were much superior to their rivals in all the departments but for all of their dominance they could not breach the gritty Curtorim defence led by Rocky Carneiro and Joao Fernandes. Betalbatim almost got in front in the dying moments of the first session but Denzil Rogtao was slow to react to a Bonny Fernandes cross.
The change of ends saw Betalbatim get back into their attacking rhythm but somehow Curtorim kept their citadel intact with keeper Prashant Dhamaskar punching out a fierce drive by Dickson Rogtao. Betalbatim persistent efforts were finally rewarded when substitute Nigel latched on to a Joe Max pass to find the net with an angular drive ten minutes before the final whistle.
