MAPUSA: Baina Sports Club were lucky to prevail over PVC Association, Parra 4-3 via tie-breaker before the former moved into the quarter-finals of Goveia Super Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro stadium, Candolim, on Thursday. The teams were locked in a 1-1 draw during regulation time.
Parra began the match on a positive note and could have taken the lead in the 5th minute of play but Atish Shirodker missed a sitter with only the rival keeper at his mercy.
Joaquim Pacheco put Parra ahead off a free- kick in the 15th minute following a handball outside the danger zone. Baina levelled the score in the 25th minute of play through Umar Mutawali.
Changing over, Parra had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards failed to find the net while the Baina keeper Xavier also came to his side’s rescue.
The winners were decided on penalties. Baina got better of Parra by 3-2. John Fernandes, Stanley Fernandes and Umar Mutawali converted for Baina while Edwin Baretto and Joaquim Pacheco found the mark for Parra.
