MAPUSA: Arpora Sporting Club beat hosts United Club Nerul 3-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the finals of 3rd Colormax-Imperial Rolling trophy at Dr Gustavo Monteiro stadium Candolim grounds, on Thursday.
Arpora started with a bang in the 7th minute, but Nerul’s Avinash Pereira pulled off a gallant save to block Pramod Mardolkar’s shot on the goalline.
As the match progressed, Arpora’s Premnath Gadekar drilled a goal-bound shot, which hit the upright.
It was now the turn of Nerul but keeper Rupesh Kamat came to his team’s rescue to deny John Vaz from scoring. On crossing over, luck once again failed to smile on Arpora as a blistering shot from Rajesh Pombuphekar, rebounded off the goal post with both the keeper and defenders beaten.
The tie-breaker was enforced to decide the winner, where Amit Fernandes, Rajesh Pombuphekar and Garry Pereira scored for Arpora, with Premnath and German shooting out while only Avinash Pereira and Newton Pereira shot on target for Nerul, but John Vaz, Xavier Clemente and Russel Fernandes blasted wide. Arpora Sporting will take on Sao Minguel Taleigao in the finals on May 1.
