Arpora make it to semi-finals

MAPUSA: Rajesh Pomburfekar’s second half strike enabled Arpora Sporting Club to defeat Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao and move into the semi-finals of Colormax Imperial Rolling Trophy soccer tournament organised by United Sports Club, Nerul at Dr Gustavo Monteiro stadium, Candolim on Sunday.

It was Arpora SC who dominated in the first session of the match but they could not score due to the missed chances by their strikers Kishor Palkar and Pramod Mardolkar. After the lemon break, Arpora exerted great pressure on the rivals in the danger zone as Pramod took a powerful shot, which was put out for a corner by Lawrence Trinidad, keeper of Adarsh. Also Rajesh Pomburfekar could not beat the keeper in a one to one situation.
In the 56th minute, Germen Fernandes sent a through pass to Rajesh Pomburfekar who beat the keeper of Saligao and shot into an open goal. They could have increased the lead in the very next minute but Germen shot over the bar from inside the box.
In the dying minutes of the match, Saligao tried hard to equalise but they could not beat the deep defence of Arpora marshalled by Nichlas Silveira, ex-captain of Sporting Club de Goa.
