PANAJI: Ambelim Sports Club entered the quarter-finals of St Anthony’s Super Soccer scoring a 2-1 victory over Cuncolim Union at Directorate of Sports grounds, Colva on Tuesday.
Both the teams dished out a good brand of soccer with Cuncolim virtually playing a well coordinated game. Raghuvir’s full-blooded shot was tipped over the bar by Ambelim goalkeeper. In the 18th minute, Ambelim surged ahead as Tiburcio Fernandes’ shot from 20 yards entered the net giving no chance to Rovan Colaco.
At half time, the score was 1-0 in favour of Ambelim. Cuncolim were missing their star player Franky who is leaving for overseas tomorrow for better prospects.
In the second half, Cuncolim went all out to get the equaliser. In the counter attack, Ambelim scored their second goal through Samson.
Cuncolim reduced the margin through Daulat Dessai. Thereafter, Cuncolim went all out to equalise but were kept in check by Ambelim defender. Daulat Dessai was named the man of the match for
his fine performance.
