PANAJI: The House on Tuesday hailed the achievement of Ms Abita Menezes in the field of martial arts, particularly her achievements in various competitions in Karate in India and abroad wherein she won 15 medals at the age of 11 and also getting second degree black belt.
Moving the congratulatory motion, Mr Agnelo Fernandes the Calangute MLA, informed the House that Ms Menezes was the youngest recipient of black belt in the state at the age of 8 years and second degree at 11 years. He also said that she has won various prizes in national and international level competitions, even as he called for promotion of martial arts in the state. Mr Francisco D’Souza, the Mapusa MLA, while hailing the achievement of Ms Menezes called for introduction of martial arts in school curriculum.
The Sports Minister, Mr Manohar Azgaonkar said that the Sports Policy of the government has helped many students and called upon parents to promote sporting talents of their wards.
The Speaker, Mr Pratapsing Rane, also supported the move and congratulated Ms Menezes, who was present in visitors’ gallery of the assembly, for winning the medals and her achievements in Karate.
