Goa Velha prevail over Agustias SC

SALIGAO: Goa Velha SC defeated Agustias SC, Pomburpa 8-7 via tie-breaker in the 14th Reira Trophy inter village football tournament, organised by Saligao Sporting Club at Saligao ground, on Monday. The teams played out a 1-1 draw at half time. While Pomburpa took the lead with a goal by Priston, Goa Velha equalised through a penalty kick by Chatur Naik. In the tie-breaker, Goa Velha proved to be better shooters.

Ritviz Parab wins rapid chess tournament

MARGAO: Top seed Ritviz Parab of Salcete Taluka won the 2nd Late Premlata Omprakash Agrawal All Goa Fide Rapid Rating Chess tournament. In the last round he drew with his rival Niraj Saripalli to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament with 8 wins and a draw to clinch the title. Vivaan Sunil Ballikar also of Salcete finished 2nd with 8 points after he beat Mandar Lad with some tactical stroke to make a new Queen in a fantastic Bishop Vs Pawn end game. Niraj Saripalli(Salcete), Anirudh Bhat(Salcete) and Miss Gunjal Chopdekar(Tiswadi) all tied with 7.5 points but Niraj was fortunate to have better tie break score and finished third. Anirudh had to be content with the 4th spot whereas Gunjal had to settle for the  5th place.

Dempo U-14 talent identification camp

PANAJI: Dempo Sports Club will be organising their annual talent identification camp for players born on or after January 1, 2008 to be a part of their Under 14 Squad. The camp will be held at Duler, Mapusa on March 2 and 3 and at Nagoa, Verna on March 4 and 5 from 7.30 am to 10 am. All the participating players have been asked to carry a copy of their Birth Certificate and own kit.

Sub junior, junior hockey selection trials

PANAJI: Goans Hockey will hold selection trials for its junior teams, both men and women, and women’s sub junior team that will participate in the 10th Hockey India Nationals. The junior men’s nationals will be held in Chennai from April 10 to 17; junior women’s nationals will be held at Ranchi from April 10 to 20 and sub junior women’s nationals will be held at Hisar, Haryana from April 13 to 24. Players born on or after January 1, 2001 are eligible to participate in the junior nationals. Girls born on or after January 1, 2004 are eligible to participate in the sub junior women’s nationals. Interested players should report to Sam Braganza at Peddem grounds on February 28 at 4 pm or to Melchior Alemao at Fatorda grounds on February 29 at 4 pm in full playing kit. Players should bring along one photograph with white background, Aadhar Card and copy of birth certificate.

Lenny D’Gama to officiate in Africa,
Europe Olympic boxing qualifiers

PANAJI: Lenny D’Gama, an international technical official of International Boxing Association has been nominated by Boxing Task Force- International Olympic Committee (IOC) to officiate in two of the four Confederations Olympic Boxing Qualifiers to be held in Africa (Dakar, Senegal) and Europe (London, United Kingdom), states the press release issued by Goa Boxing Association, on Monday.

Vikram Bhangle named jury for ISSF Shooting WC

PANAJI: Rifle Shooting Association, Goa’s secretary general and international shooting coach, Vikram Bhangle has been appointed as a Jury for ISSF Shooting World Cup to be held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi from March 15 to 26.
