Goa Doot, Lokmat advance into quarters

PANAJI: Goa Doot, Lokmat won their matches while AIR received a walk-over to qualify for the quarter-finals of late Vijay Gad memorial inter-media cricket tournament being played here at SAG grounds, Campal.


In the opening match, which was truncated to 10 overs a side, Goa Doot defeated Prudent by one run. Batting first, Goa Doot scored 74 for 4 in 10 overs while Prudent managed to score only 73 for the loss of 8 wickets. Goa Doot’s Sachin Vete top-scored with 39 runs and was eventually adjudged man-of-the-match. Nikhil (2-17) was the only successful bowler for Prudent. Barring Nilesh (15 not out), no batsman got into double figures for Prudent. Goa Doot’s Kishor, Dhiraj and Suhas claimed 2 wickets each while Sachin took one.
The second match of the day was awarded to AIR, as their opponents Herald failed to report at the ground in time. 
In the third match, Lokmat drubbed Pudhari by 51 runs. Batting first, Lokmat scored 126 for 7 wickets. Abhijeet top-scored with unbeaten 24, while Baburao chipped in with 15 runs. Nitin and Ulhas took two wickets each for Pudhari. Chasing the stiff target of 126, Pudhari could score only 75 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in stipulated 15 overs. Lokmat’s Siddhesh Volvoikar was declared man-of-the-match for his 4-wicket haul, which included a hat-trick as well.
Earlier, Director of Information and Publicity, Mr Menino Pires and SAG Executive Director, Mr V M Prabhudesai, who were present for the function as the chief guest and the guest of honour respectively, inaugurated the tournament.
