Documentary ‘Special Envoy’ a co-production by Lotus Film & TV Production (Goa) and Real Ficção (Portugal) by Nalini Elvino de Sousa won the Award of Merit at Accolade Global Film Competition.
The documentary is based on the life of Aquino de Bragança– a Goan who fought for the liberation of Africa. This documentary has the participation of Goa’s very own fado singer Sonia Shirsat who has sung ‘Grândola Vila Morena’ – the song that was used as a secret message to the soldiers who started the April 25 revolution which brought democracy to Portugal.
The documentary team includes cinematographer, John Lino; editor, Gasper D’Souza; music composer, Santiago Lusardi Girelli; sound editor, Chester Misquitta; scriptwriter, Shaira Sequeira Shetty; chess expert, Shrikant Bharve; main actor late Joao Proença, photographer, Emidio Jozine and narrator, Fernando Vaz.
“This was the first prize and I am thrilled it was in the category of Liberation/Social Justice/Protest, because that is what the film is about,” said Nalini.
Gasper D’souza shared his experience of working on the project and said that it was an exciting project as he worked as an editor for the documentary. “The sheer amount of archives and file formats made it challenging. Then there was the creative fun of working with Nalini to tell the story of a historical figure about whom not many knew,” he added.
The Accolade recognises film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce entertainment or contribute to profound social change. Entries are judged by professionals from film and television industry.
(‘Special Envoy’ will be screened at Goa Art and Literary Festival (GALF) on December 7 at 10 a.m. at Abolim hall, International Centre Goa, Dona Paula.)
