PANAJI: When Zico was at the helm of FC Goa the banter was that the team was full of Brazilian players. After having appointed Spanish coach Sergio Lobera, Spaniards appear to be on their way to Goa. Thirty-two-year-old Spanish striker Ferran Corominas Telechea is supposed to join the team, according to social media posts.
Ferran, started with Espanyol B, moved on to the senior team was on loan to Osasuna and played for Girona too. Basically a player, according to Wikipedia, a striker who did not break into any of the big teams in Spain.
Ferran played for the Spanish U-17, U-19 and U-20 teams for three years from 2001 to 2003. During this time he represented his country 23 times and scored thrice.
Zico never managed to get a consistent striker for team FC Goa. All players were expected to score. If social media blogs are to be believed, Ferran will be the second foreign player from Spain signed by FC Goa – the first being winger Manuel Jesús Arana Rodríguez. Arana has been released by Australian club Brisbane FC.
Portuguese import Bruno Pinheiro is the third foreigner to have been signed by FC Goa. Pinheiro was part of Boa Vista and Gil vincente. Boa Vista had a few years back won the Portuguese First Division – though Bruno was not part of the outfit then.
