BY ROQUE DIAS MARGAO: The villagers of Loutolim are up in arms over the `flaw-filled’ notified Regional Plan 2021 for Loutolim village, as major share of their land is included in the industrial zones, despite the villagers suggesting the same be used for community projects like an educational hub or a sport city, so that the same could benefit the locals and sport lovers.
Some 3000 trucks transporting mineral ore speed everyday on the Curchorem roads and in the neighbouring areas of Quepem and Rivona endangering the lives of the people and also causing huge traffic jams. MARGAO: With most of the people preferring their own personalised mode of transport, the number of vehicles on Margao roads has increased tremendously resulting in traffic congestion and chaos at several places in the commercial capital of the state.
Having worked at various police stations as a police inspector of the Goa Police Department since 1961, Mr Mario Coutinho retired from office in the year 1997. During his tenure, he worked as a police inspector at the Margao Traffic Cell for five years and brought about a few changes in the traffic system to regulate the smooth flow of traffic. The number of vehicles on our roads have certainly increased. However, the infrastructure remains the same. The government is collecting huge revenue from vehicle owners as road tax and other allied charges.
