THIRST QUENCHED: The ground-level water reservoir project at INS Hansa, having a storage capacity of 5,000 cubic litres, has been completed.
This is sufficient to provide residents of the port town water supply for four to five days in case of a breakdown in supply from Selaulim. The reservoir, constructed at the cost of ` 11 crore, will be inaugurated in January this year and sources in the PWD informed that the underground pipeline running along Swatantra Path would be connected to the reservoir within few days.
AIRPORT ROAD TAKES OFF: The 1.6 km four-lane road connecting Dabolim airport to the Chicalim junction will ease traffic bottleneck in the area. Commissioning of the work witnessed two inaugurations, one at the hands of the Deputy Speaker, Mr Mauvin Godinho and the second by the Revenue Minister, Mr Jose Philip D’Souza. There were several encroachments – hotel, residence, electricity pole and a water pipeline, which had delayed the project. After clearing these hurdles, the PWD completed the road, at the cost of ` 3.5 crore. All that remains is the construction of a divider.
BOOST FOR SPORTS: The Neogi ground, earlier referred to as the New Vaddem playground got a ` 40-lakh make over and was inaugurated by the Sports Minister, Mr Manohar Azgaonkar. The work was taken up by the Sports Authority of Goa. There was a pressing need for a good practice ground for upcoming sportspersons of New Vaddem and the Neogi Ground fulfills this need. The outstanding features of the ground are a green-topped football field, floodlights to enable nighttime practice and a walking and jogging track.
