Sopte ready for face-off with Parsekar in Mandrem

PANAJI: Dayanand Sopte a former MLA and probable candidate of the Bhartiya Janata Party for the upcoming by-poll to Mandrem constituency, on Thursday said that he will sail through the by-poll if former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar contests  as an Independent candidate.

Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, Sopte claimed that 75 per cent of the BJP workers are solidly behind  him and that he is confident of winning  the by-poll.

Parsekar has said that he has started groundwork for the Mandrem by-election, claiming that all members of the Mandrem mandal of the BJP are fully backing him.

“Parsekar  contesting  as an Independent candidate in the Mandrem by-poll  will not harm me. On the contrary, it will help me win the by-election more comfortably,” he asserted.

Sopte said that he has been in touch with a large  number of booth-level BJP workers and will continue to reach out  to the other workers who have not yet been contacted and convinced.

“I am overwhelmed by  the support received from the voters during corner meetings. I did not get  this kind of support even when I contested the 2017 assembly elections on Congress ticket,” he maintained.

He dismissed Jit Arolkar, who could enter the fray, as a new face.
