Soldier’s Death As Election Plank

KAJAL CHATTERJEE, KOLKATA

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi asks: “If farmers die then it is an election issue, but when soldiers die then it is not an election issue. How can that be?” Modi is absolutely right in pointing out this hypocrisy. Indeed if death, suicide, abject conditions of the farmers merit as an election issue zealously pointing fingers of accusation towards the government of the day for drastically failing to redress the  adversities of the farmers who provide food to our plates, then why should death of soldiers, defending the nation  not merit as an election issue zealously pointing fingers of accusation towards the government of the day for drastically failing in garnering intelligence and manning the border meticulously? Indeed there lies no question of sweeping the deaths of soldiers in Pulwama under the carpet in this electoral scenario. The death of those who are giving their todays for our tomorrows should never be forgotten in a hurry. So it forms the patriotic and humanitarian duty of the Opposition parties and true Indian citizens to demand answers from the government as why is it regularly failing in protecting the lives of our soldiers and resultantly endangering the security of common citizens and Bharat Mata itself! Yes, the nation wants to know from the “mighty” Who’s Who of the nation as how did Pulwama and similar other audacious attacks happen! If the people in power do not provide satisfactory answer then they should not ask for pardon from the families of the soldiers and the citizens of India for failing to perform their constitutional duty. Or the people in power should not slander those who dare to pose the highly relevant questions; the electorate of India should necessarily tag it as the most important election issue and provide apt reply through EVM to those who are failing to provide security to us and the soldiers as well.
