In what looked like an easy outing, Corps of Signals registered a convincing 4-0 win over Bardez Football Club in their Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium on Tuesday, stated a press note by Goa Football Association.
Corps’ Vishnu Chhetri was the hero of the day for scoring a brace and Suklab Bordolai and Amit Tariyal also got on the score sheet for the winning side.
Corps of Signals moved to 19 points from 21 games and are on ninth position while FC Bardez remain sunk at bottom with six points and managed just one win in the competition so far and three draws.
Signals dictated the terms from the word go, pressing their opponents in their own half.
The much deserved goal came in the 17th minute when N Bhutia played a defence splitting pass to Vishnu, who rounded off the keeper with a simple shot to give Signals a narrow 1-0 first half lead.
Bardez FC weren’t threatening at all as they were mostly restricted to a mid-field battle throughout the first half.
Crossing over, Signals continued with their game plan playing attacking football and they tried to break the opponents defence from the centre.
Signals scored the second in the 66th minute once again through Vishnu, who was quickest to react to a rebound shot.
Down by two goals, Bardez knew it would be difficult to get back in the game as they looked even more vulnerable in the defence. Finally Signals scored their third in the 81st minute through Suklab who on receiving a pass from Roman, covered some distance to score the team’s third. Signals scored their fourth in the 84th minute through Amit. Bardez FC’s Sheamesh Naik and Stephen Martin were booked along with Signals’ Om Prakash during the match, said the press release.
