When it looked like the Signals would dim, they kept going and held Guardian Angel Sports Club to a goalless draw to
earn their first point in the Goa Football Association (GFA) Profesional League match, played at Duler Stadium, on
Saturday.

Signals coach Eban Mesquita made three changes to his side that lost to Calangute Association with Om Prakash, L. Nokul Singh and newly signed defender Michael Silva making a start. Rivals Guardian Angel brought in Agnelo Coalco and Nigerian defender
Benjamin Eniwo after they had defeated Panjim Footballers in their
previous round.

Angels should have scored at least two goals in the first 20 minutes but aimless shooting by Kimran Fernandes and Ghanaian striker Bamba Musah Moctar restricted their goal line.

The Curchorem side had another opportunity in the 29th minutes when Willian Niasso nicely curled the ball in the box to Agnelo Colaco but the forward’s shot sailed over the crossbar.

Angels’ defender William was in the action again in the 37th minute when he made a darting run on the right flank and feigned Signals defender Om to enter the box but his powerful strike from inside the box was brilliantly blocked by Signals keeper Binu
Purushothaman.

Signals’ only chance to score came in the added minutes of the first session as Vishnu Chhetri made a perfect through pass to Nokul in the box but his goal bound shot was brilliantly blocked by Angels’ keeper Pratheesh
Veettil.

At the half time, Signals coach Eban made all three substitutions as Praful Aurin, Aditya D’Crus and Melroy Moura made way for Ankan Dawn, Pawan Thakur and Thingnam Roshan Singh, whilst Beneston Barretto replaced Nigerian defender Benjamin for
Angels.

Angels had a chance to take the lead just after crossing over as substitute Beneston made a swift move from the halfway line and found Musah who cut past two defenders in the box and squared it to Gilbert Oliveira whose scorching shot was blocked by Signals’ keeper Binu.

Signals had to play with 10 men in the last 25 minutes as their substitute midfielder Roshan was injured and could not be replaced as Signals had done their all three substitutions at the halftime.

Beneston was unlucky not to score from the goalmouth as his header off Musah’s cross rebounded off the crossbar. A few minutes later, the Ghanaian striker also had a chance to give his side the lead when he dribbled past three defenders in the box but Signals’ defender Romanse MS cleared the danger before he could do any damage.

Beneston had another opportunity to seal the deal in the 85th minutes when he was perfectly fed in front of the goal by Gilbert with a cross but Signals’ keeper Binu made an excellent block in a one-on-one. In added time, Angels’ defender William saw his goal bound strike nicely fisted over the crossbar by Signals’ keeper
Binu.
