At Qatar Design District 2019, Doha, Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks showcased the collection ‘The Vague de l’eau’, The Water Waves Collection in Wendell Rodricks signature white and Bblack hues.
Looking out at the vast Arabian sea and the Persian Gulf, tranquil and calm waves swell in its depth or rage and crash at the shore. The ‘Vague de l’eau’ collection takes inspiration from the poetry that is water waves. From its flowing, swirling, curling, rippling dynamics of motion and how moonlight to sunlight make it glisten from silver to gold. From Goa to Doha.
The collection uses soft supple fabrics of crepe silk/georgette and satin, as well as knit to represent water’s formless fluidity in the silhouettes. Pleated silk organza perfectly visualises the ripples and swish of the ocean waves in its texture. The colour palette in white symbolises the vitality of the sea and surf by day and in midnight black, the depth of its breathtakingly beautiful look by night. Subtle, shimmery hand-embroidered bead work lends a glamorous hint of the ocean’s sparkly gleaming surface as it reflects nature’s radiant light.
20 designers from Paris to Mumbai showcased their latest Spring/ Summer collections. From India, Raw Mango, Tarun Tahiliani, Namrata Joshipura, Raghvendra Rathore and Wendell Rodricks were the five designers chosen for their individual fashion shows displaying the diversity of Indian fashion styles.
