Salcete people seek ‘clarity’ on procedures at empanelled hospitals

The people of Salcete, who have enrolled for  Deen  Dayal  Swasthya Seva  Yojana (DDSSY), a health scheme, introduced by the state  government, demanded with the government to reveal the  procedures  being undertaken by the  hospitals empanelled under the scheme.

“I strongly demand that the  government should  give us leaflets  carrying details of the procedures  carried out by each of the empanelled hospitals in  Goa.  The  government should also insist on all the  hospitals that are empanelled for the scheme to display the  list of procedures they  undertake, under the scheme, prominently,”  said  Cajitan  Cardozo, of  Chinchinim.

There are  reports  from Salcete  about  poor patients  rushed to empanelled hospital in a critical  condition for the medical  attention, not getting the required service, as the  particular hospital is not  listed for the particular  procedure  under the scheme. And, by the time, the patients were shifted to another hospital, they were often dead.

This is compelling the the poor patients to shell out money  for medical treatment despite the fact that they are enrolled for the DDSSY.

Succorina   Fernandes, a resident of Nuvem  informed that  she visited  a renowned  hospital in  Margao  with a heart attack  patient, but was told that the DDSSY benefit for the ailment was not available at that hospital.

The patient was then shifted to another hospital, she added.

Health insurance cover of  Rs 2. 5 lakh is being provided under the scheme for  the family of three or less while Rs 4 lakh cover is provided for a family of a four and  more members.
