Saints leading the way

For decades, the village of Goa Velha has celebrated the ‘Santachem Pursanv’ or the ‘Penitential Procession of Saints’ during the season of lent. This year, thousands of devotees from different walks of life, irrespective of religion took part in the solemn procession at St Andrew’s Church in Goa Velha. 31 life-size statues including that of the patron of the archdiocese, St Joseph Vaz were taken in procession, after which they were kept open for public veneration.
