SANKHALI : The Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar Tuesday inaugurated a new sports ground at Kelbaiwada Mayem. The ground has been jointly developed by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and Sports Authority of Goa at a cost of Rs 80 lakh. Speaking on the occasion Tawadkar said that his ministry has many plans of promoting sports in rural areas and that it will strengthen the base for youngsters in the state.
He also added that the state government will create an infrastructure of Rs 300 crore for organising National Games in Goa on par with the Lusofonia Games. Tawadkar spoke about his ministry’s plans for organising the FIFA Under-17 World Cup. He added that Mayem constituency will also get three sports grounds at Chorao, Haturlim and Maulingem in the future.
The deputy speaker Anant Shet, North Goa ZP president Ankita Navelkar, Mayem BJP block president Shankar Chodankar, Mayem sarpanch Neha Thanekar, deputy sarpanch Narendra Tari, Arun Bhat and other panch members were present.
Deputy speaker Anant Shet said that talent of sports in villages will flourish as sports infrastructure is provided to youth. VM Prabhudesai welcomed the gathering.
