The Forum for Integrated Development and Research (FIDR), a social organisation working on livelihood and social research recently held a round table conference to discuss the dynamics in livelihood and economic growth.
The conference concluded that, inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods programs are essential for inclusive growth and sustainable livelihood. Members mooted the setting up of a livelihood task force to help capacity building and creating favorable environment to address issues relating to poverty, data collection, monitoring and planning.
Members were concerned over the issue of residents migrating in search of a better life. To stem the migration it was suggested that employment strategies needs to be developed and local capacities fortified. The conference was attended by Sidharth Kucolinkar, chairman, EDC, Nitin Kunkolienkar, MAIT president, Adv Yatish Naik, Saswat Gupta Ray, editor of Gomantak Times, Sangita Naik, GIPT, Soter D’Souza, Amol Navalker, Monoj Parab, Avelino de Sa, president, DRAG and many others. The Forum also called for encouraging gender and differently abled empowerment. It also suggested assessing community needs and help to communities to get access to alternative sources of livelihoods such as IT.
